Morpeth’s Under 16 Boys table tennis team have won the Regional Final of the ESTTA Butterfly National Team Championship 2016.

They played and beat three schools:

  • The Howard School, Rainham, Kent; result 5-3
  • The Bishop of Hereford Blue Coat School, Hereford, Herefordshire, result 8-0
  • Budmouth College, Weymouth Dorset, result 6-2.

Morpeth table tennis coach, Helder Neves, said: “This is the first time that we’ve played in this competition. We used to play in a different region so we didn’t know which schools we would be up against.

“The Morpeth players are all year 11s, they are busy preparing for their exams and couldn’t practice much, so I was worried, but everything turned out fine.”

The Under 16 Boys team is made up of: Murhad Hussain, Imran Hussain, Anthony Lynch, Jamie Dignum and Rijul Roychoudhury.

The Under 16 Teams Boys national finals will be on Saturday the 16th April in Hinckley Leisure Centre in Leicestershire.

The Individuals National Finals, in which four Morpeth students have qualified, takes place on 23rd of April 2016. Finalists are: Nabilah Rifat - U16 Girls, Yasna Hawbash - U13 Girls, Anthony Lynch - U16 Boys and Rijul Roychoudhury - U19 Boys.
