Each pupil from Years 7-9 has 1 weekly lesson of RS. In Years 10 and 11 pupils have 2 lessons per week.
At Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) pupils learn about the six major world religions with particular focus on Islam and Christianity. Pupils are encouraged to develop an accurate understanding of religion. Religious Studies at Morpeth allows pupils to think about and respond to the deeper questions of life.
Key Stage 4
In Year 10 all pupils are entered for Short Course RE where they cover the topics:
- Believing in God
- Matters of Life and Death
- Marriage and Family Life
- Religion and Community
- Cohesion
The Short Course exam is worth 50% of the final grade.
In Year 11 all pupils are entered for Full Course RE where they will study either Christianity or Islam. They will cover the following topics:
- Beliefs and Values
- Community and Tradition
- Worship and Celebration
- Living the Muslim or Christian Life
Next year we plan to offer a new unit as a third option, Religion and Society. Pupils choosing this option will focus on ethical and religious issues and undertake the following topics:
- Religion, Environment and Medical Issues
- Peace and Conflict
- Rights and Responsibilities
- Crime and Punishment
The Full Course exam makes up the remaining 50% of pupils’ final grade.
