‘Education for the whole community’
Globetown Learning Community offers a variety of day time courses for adults, before and after school support for children and young people and its programmes have a significant impact on the educational chances of the community. Projects are tailored to support individual needs and to fully accommodate women of different backgrounds and abilities. GLC recognises there are a lot of talented people in the community with skills which are not being tapped into because of their lack of English. As a result, the charity set up a sewing group through which, not only have the women made new friends and improved their English, but they have taken their first steps into employment.
Globetown Music Festival 2008
In partnership with organisations such as Barbican Education and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the charity provides music and art projects for local schools and the community, offering individual music tuition to pupils who otherwise would not be able to take up those opportunities.
Globetown Learning Community offers a wide range of projects including weekend classes to support literacy and numeracy, a table tennis sports project, university trips for pupils and parents and much more.
