GOING HEAD TO HEAD
Year 11 pupils have been introduced to the challenge of job hunting by taking part in Morpeth Schools Head to Head Practice Interview Programme.
Private sector volunteers gave up their time to interview 231 Year 11 pupils, over a two-day period, for a mock job.
Interviews were based on pupils’ CVs and made up job roles including a Junior Legal Secretary, a Customer Assistant, a Teacher Assistant and an Insurance Administration Apprentice. Pupils were also given the choice of creating their own job reflecting their future ambitions and desired career path
The programme, organised by Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership, is designed to help pupils prepare for working life by giving them true interview experience.
Pupil, Thujce, said: “It was really good and helped me a lot. The questions my interviewer asked me weren’t that difficult; I’m sure I got the job!”
Interviewer Yvan Iriebiguian from Barclays said: “I’m very impressed. It’s good for someone like me to be reminded of what is like when you’re 16 or 17 and to be able to advise on how to engage with a prospective employer by improving your application letter, or answering interview questions in a different way.”
Thirty two volunteers from fifteen organisations took part in the programme.
Organisations that took part are:
