FORMER MORPETH PUPIL SELECTED FOR OLYMPIC TEAM GB
Former Morpeth School pupil Ashley Facey Thompson, popped in to the school to share his good news with staff and pupils about his selection to the 2016 British Paralympic team.
Ashley has been chosen as first reserve for team GB’s Paralympic table tennis team and will be going to the Olympics in Brazil this year.
He took up the sport when he came to Morpeth in Year 7, and joined the after school table tennis club.
He still trains at Morpeth, as well as spending one week each month training intensively in Sheffield.
Ashley is studying Sports Science at London South Bank University, and plans to do his Masters Degree in Sports Journalism.
He said: “Being selected is a fantastic opportunity, and my mum is really proud of me.”
